Discussion Time- Let's talk amongst ourselves...

"As a Kentucky dental hygienist, what is your vision for the future of the practice of dental hygiene in Kentucky?" Donna Mischel asks BGDDHA members, as well as, all practicing dental hygienists in Kentucky- it's time to voice your opinion on the direction dental hygienists should take. KDHA Annual Session is coming soon- the House of Delegates will be meeting.

I agree with this issue, many patients are not able to leave the nursing home or travel to a dental office for treatment. It would be a great benefit to homebound patients as well. My brother has stage IV lung cancer with mets to the brain, spine and abdomen. He cannot walk anymore, is bedridden, and has to be transported by ambulance to his regular doctor's visits. I can't clean his teeth or even look with a mirror to see if anything needs to be done - legally.

On the dental auxilillary position - what good is supragingival scaling going to do anyway? Will that dental auxillary posiiton end in the nursing home? Why dosen't the ADA utilize hygienists for this service? Guess that would make too much sense to utilize someone who is qualified.
